Janis Lynne Anderson Moore, 76 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2026.
She graduated from Columbus High School and then attended Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia where she completed the Associate Program in the School of Nursing.
Janis met her husband, Royce Moore when she was a new nurse at Saint Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. Royce had been in a water-skiing accident that injured his back, and Janis was his nurse. They married and moved to Gainesville, Georgia and spent 56 wonderful years together.
She worked at Northeast Georgia Medical Center as the charge nurse on the Adolescent Unit at Laurelwood during her nursing career. She also taught in a program to help people become certified nursing assistants. She demonstrated much compassion to those under her care, as well as kindness, empathy, and understanding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Anderson, Sr. and Julia Lucille Dalton Anderson, as well as her sister, Diane McAreavy. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Royce Moore; daughters Kim Moore and Eve Bowen; grandchildren Brennen Bowen and Sierra Bowen; brother Benjamin Franklin Anderson, Jr. (Clara); nieces Tracy Black (Keith) and Alicia Anderson; nephew Wesley Anderson (Paula); great nephew Brandon Black (Elizabeth); great nephew Sam Garcia; sister-in-law Brenda Leukhardt (Mike); brother-in-law Larry Moore. She is also survived by other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mason Funeral Home, 758 Main Street, SW, Gainesville, GA 30501. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. A private family graveside service will be held with immediate family in Arabi, Georgia.
